California Regulations Approved
After approximately eighteen months, numerous iterations, several comment and notice periods and a few false alerts, California finally has approved regulations for its landmark sexual harassment training law, otherwise known as AB 1825. The regulations will become effective on August 17, 2007.
As you may recall, it was nearly three years ago, on September 30, 2004, when California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill requiring that private employers of 50 or more employees conduct at least two hours of sexual harassment training for its supervisory employees. The law demanded that the training be effective, interactive and practical and be taught by experienced and qualified trainers. Of course, the law left much to interpretation and that is where the regulations come into play.
