What information may we collect from you?
In order to provide you with relevant products, create a personalized viewing experience and maintain our Website, SSAW collects two types of information from its users and visitors who use, browse or visit our Website: personal information and non-personal information. Our primary goal in collecting these types of information from you is to provide you with a customized experience–not to raise concerns about the safety and security of your information.
(a) Personal information. We may collect personal information (including, but not limited to your name, address, zip code, country, phone number and e-mail address), demographic information (including, but not limited to your age, household size, income level, education, gender, information about your business and birth date), financial information (including, but not limited to your credit card information) and psychographic information (including, but not limited to your reason for Internet use, reason for use of the Website and products and topics of interest to you).
(b) Non-personal information. We may collect information that by itself cannot be linked to your personal identity. We automatically gather certain non-personal information about you based upon your activity on the Website. We also collect machine data (such as processor type and speed, account information, operating system type, Internet connection speed, browser type, audio devices, modem devices, video cards and any software on your computer that may interact or interfere with our software or Services) and your web browsing information (such as a website’s Uniform Resource Locator (“ URL”) from which you just came, the URL to which you next move, access times on a URL, certain non-identifying purchase transaction details and the Internet Protocol (“ IP”) address from which you have accessed the Website).
Where do we collect your information?
(a) Registration forms. We collect information that you submit on registration forms, from surveys, e-mail lists, questionnaires, responses to sweepstakes or other special offers, or other online forms or interactive portions of our Website.
(b) Using the Website. While you are using the Website we collect non-personally identifiable information including, without limitation, information regarding the websites you visit, your interactions with those sites, any software on your computer that may interact or interfere with our Website. Our Website may use its own unique technology to build a database of the types of sites you visit while you are online. This information is ultimately stored in the form of categories and, in some cases, specific URLs. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our Website, servers and software, and to administer our Website.
(c) Third-party sources. We may gather new information or update existing information from other sources including, but not limited to, for example, verifying and updating your address using third-party services, using various methods to update your credit card expiration date, or collecting or comparing information about you from third parties.
(d) Surveys. When you participate in online surveys sponsored by SSAW or a trusted partner, we may ask you for certain information, for example, demographic information (like your zip code, age or income level) and your hobbies and interests in order to track responses.
(e) Contests and sweepstakes. We may hold contests, sweepstakes and other promotions on our Website, in which we may request entrants to provide personal and/or contact information. SSAW uses the information collected in the entry form to verify the entrant’s identity, age and to communicate with entrants. We will not knowingly permit children under the age of 18 to participate in contests or sweepstakes. We may also co-sponsor a contest or sweepstakes with a trusted partner contractually obligated to protect your personal information with whom we will share information obtained as a result of participation in the contest or sweepstakes.
(f) Technical/Support Information. If you contact us by e-mail or other means for technical support or information related to the Website, we may keep a record of your communication and its resolution. Thus, if you report a problem with our Website or have a question, we may collect such information in a file specific to you. Additionally, if other users or third parties send us correspondence about your activities on our Website, we may keep the information in a file specific to you and/or the investigation or action we take.
How is your information used?
SSAW uses the information it collects to provide you with more relevant services. To accomplish this we may collect and perform research on the information from our users and other parties that provide similar types of consumer information. This research is compiled, analyzed and used to better serve our users, third-party advertisers and trusted partners. In particular, we have described below some of the ways we use the information we collect:
(a) Personalize your experience. Information is used to tailor your experience when visiting our Website, such as by displaying advertisements and content that might be of interest to you.
(b) Respond to inquiries. If you request information from us, then we will collect information from you in order to respond to your requests or inquiries.
(c) Understand user needs and trends. We use information to do internal research on our users’ demographics, interests and behavior to better understand and serve our users and visitors. We also collect information regarding the referring URL, your IP address, which browser you used to come to the Website and the pages of our Website that you viewed during your visit.
(d) E-mail and direct mail marketing. You agree to receive e-mail, advertisements and promotions from us, third-party advertisers, and trusted partners regarding products or services we believe you may be interested in, new features or products we are introducing, tips on product use and promotions.
(e) Diagnose service problems. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our Website, servers, software, and to administer our Website. We also may review “log-file” data to monitor Website performance and analyze traffic and usage patters of our Website.
Who is collecting your information?
SSAW takes great care to ensure the privacy of the users of its Website—but not every company or website has comparable data and privacy policies and practices. While you are on the Website we will be collecting information as described in this Policy, unless it is specifically stated otherwise. Some of our products or services may be offered in conjunction with third-party advertisers or our trusted partners in a co-branded manner. When we offer you co-branded products or services and you respond with your information, we may share your personal information with our third-party co-branding partner.
Once you leave our Website, we cannot and do not assume any responsibility for any other content or practices of unaffiliated sites. Providers of unaffiliated Internet sites or services have separate data and privacy policies and practices independent of our Policy that govern the manner in which they use the information that you provide to them. Even within our Website, some of the features and content is supplied by third parties (or jointly by SSAW and one or more third-party advertisers or trusted partners), each of which has its own data and privacy policies and practices, and the Website may link to web pages provided by third-parties that are co-branded by us and the provider, but which are not covered by this Policy.
With whom do we share your information?
Except as otherwise described in this Policy, we will not disclose or share your unaggregated personal information to an unaffiliated third party unless you consent to the disclosure of such information.
(a) Sale or rent of personal information. We do not rent or sell your unaggregated personal information to anyone without your express consent.
(c) Purchasers of the business. If SSAW sells, assigns or transfers its business, is part of a corporate reorganization, consolidation, merger or the sale or transfer of substantially all of its voting securities or assets, or in the unlikely event that SSAW goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, then your information (both personal and non-personal) may be sold, assigned or transferred as a part of such a transaction. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of SSAW or any of its assets may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this Policy.
How may you access or update your information?
The information you provide during your use of the Website may be changed by you or you may have your name removed from SSAW’s database by sending an e-mail to SeyfarthShaw@seyfarth.com.
How do we protect your information?
SSAW may use security systems and secure computers to protect your information. However, please be aware that Internet security technology changes rapidly and data transmission is never 100% secure. We cannot and do not guarantee that any safeguards we use will protect your information from security threats, whether now or in the future. You should also be aware that despite our efforts, factors beyond our control may result in disclosure of your information. Accordingly, we are not able to and do not guarantee the security of the information you transmit or that we retransmit when utilizing our Website. IN THE EVENT OF AN INTERCEPTION OF YOUR INFORMATION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, SSAW SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH INTERCEPTION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, OR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOST PROFITS) SUFFERED BY YOU, EVEN IF SSAW HAS PREVIOUSLY BE9. SSAW DOES NOT WARRANT, EITHER EXPRESSLY OR IMPLIEDLY, THAT THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE SHALL BE FREE FROM INTERCEPTION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
A note about international users.
The information we collect from users is processed and maintained in the United States, where privacy laws may not be as protective as in your home country. If you are accessing our Website from outside of the United States, by providing information to us you are consenting to the transfer of the information to the United States for processing in a manner consistent with this Policy.
A note about the privacy of children under 18.
The Website is not intended for use by individuals under 18 years of age. Users under the age of 18 should get the permission of a parent or guardian to use the SSAW Website. SSAW does not knowingly collect, use, disclose or maintain personal information from children under the age of 18. However, in the event a child under the age of 18 submits a question to us at our Website and identifies his or her age, we may use the child’s email address for the sole purpose of responding to the child’s question on a one-time-only basis. We will not use the child’s email address for further contact and we will remove the address from our records after we have initially responded.
Third-Party ad servers.
SSAW allows other companies, called third-party ad servers or ad networks, to display advertisements on the Website. Some of these ad networks may place a persistent cookie on your computer. Doing this allows them to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. In this way, ad networks may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads are clicked on. This information allows an ad network to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. SSAW does not have access to or control over the cookies that may be placed by these parties on your computer, and has no control over these parties’ privacy policies or information collection practices (if any).
If SSAW changes its privacy practices as described in this Policy, those changes will be posted on this Website so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information and to whom we will disclose it. We reserve the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add, amend and/or remove all or a portion of this Policy at any time without notice. We will notify you about material changes in the way we treat your information by posting our changes to the Policy on our Website and by placing a notice on the Website that we have materially changed our Policy. Any change, update or modification to the Policy posted to our Website will immediately become effective unless otherwise noted. Please be sure to check this page periodically for changes to this Policy.
